GLENN GREENWALD BOOK REVIEW, THE GUARDIAN

No Place To Hide: One Book To Read (A book review)

Amazon published a book review I wrote this morning:
This review is from: No Place to Hide: Edward Snowden, the NSA, and the U.S. Surveillance State (Hardcover)

If you're interested in the subject of warrantless surveillance, big data collection by secret government intelligence agencies, the three-letter groups (for example FBI, CIA, NSA); and if you're interested in the legal minefields where whistleblowers, journalists, hackers, leakers and publishers find themselves everyday risking their lives, their careers and their freedom for principles and maybe "moral imperatives"; and if you only have time to read one book on all these subjects: this book by Glenn Greenwald, "No Place to Hide" -- is the one for you! The last chapter, "The Fourth Estate" is worth the cost of the book all by itself. It is a brilliant, insightful analysis of the media, the relationship between media and government aiding and abetting a propaganda machine that would make even Goebbels flush with envy. This book takes the reader behind the scenes, before Edward Snowden turned over documents to the Guardian newspaper, leading up to the meetings with Snowden, to publishing the materials and then through the subsequent smear campaign and personal attacks Greenwald received from fellow colleagues, fellow “journalists” that came immediately afterwards. I recommend this book to anyone interested in secrecy, the government and threats to civil liberties; you need this one in your collection.

Science-fiction or Truth?

I’m writing a science-fiction story about a secret underground cult-like intelligence organization that identifies and locates people who, the organization alleges, committed high crimes, misdemeanors and other suppressive acts against the Greater Good in their past lives for which they were never prosecuted (or persecuted), the details of which the presumed “guilty” party has no memory whatsoever. They are forced to “confess” to the crimes and be rehabilitated or else suffer exile from family, friends, school and career. No, wait a minute! There is such an organization actually in existence right now: it’s called the Church of Scientology.

What is a Corpocrichy?

CORPOCRICHY
(pronunciation: cor-POK-ruh-kee or cor-POK-ruh-see)

This is a new word I made up to define and describe our form of government by combining these three words:

1. corporation
2. hypocrisy
3. oligarchy

CORPOCRICHY

(pronunciation: cor-POK-ruh-kee or cor-POK-ruh-see):

A form of governance wherein trade guilds (corporations) organize together with all the rights and duties of both individuals (people) and business (corporations) forming a union (i.e. government), to control a country by operating it as a private unregulated business, usually for corrupt and selfish purposes.

CORPOCRICHY (cor-POK-ruh-kee/see) is distinct from “democracy” in that “democracy” is the rule of a majority through systems of elected public representatives. CORPOCRICHY (cor-POK-ruh-kee/see), on the other hand, is a type of “labor union” by reverse engineering. Elected by a majority of stockholders privately representing the self-interests of the global business community (not blue-collar laborers), this form of government maintains and provides all the “trappings” of democracy (i.e., free speech, free press, freedom of religion, free elections and a so-called constitutional rule of law suggesting a pretense of moral principles it doesn’t really possess). A CORPOCRICHY (cor-POK-ruh-kee/see) creates the impression of representation when, in actual fact, there is neither public debate nor representative democracy.
